ACCOMMODATION REVIEW
Lochgreen House Hotel is set amidst thirty acres of woodland and landscaped gardens adjacent to the famous fairways of Royal Troon and stands as a perfect reminder of a bygone era. Built by the Morton family in 1905, the house features fine wood panelling throughout, with light oak in the hall and study and cherry in the dining room. Meticulous attention to detail remains the hallmark of Lochgreen House, which has developed into one of Scotland's finest country houses.
Up to very recently, Lochgreen House offered only 15 guestrooms but a completely new section, comprising no less than 25 superb new bedrooms, has now been added to the hotel. Such major refurbishment can sometimes ruin the aura of a place such as Lochgreen but the new additions have been completed extremely tastefully and have in no way compromised the original ambience. Guests can now choose between a fine selection of 32 rooms in the main house; opt for one of the seven Courtyard Lodges or choose the Lodge accommodation.
One of the highlights of any visit to Lochgreen House is the innovative cuisine offered in the classic setting of the dining room. Proprietor and master chef, Bill Costley was for many years a member and coach with the Scottish Culinary Team and this is reflected in the extensive selection of gourmet dishes. In terms of dining, guests can choose between the main restaurant or the brasserie, while the Malt Room, tucked away in a corner of the study, houses an impressive range of malt whiskies and is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed drink.
